Thompson Discusses House Passed Measures to Fund Government, End Stalemate

Statement

U.S. Representative Glenn "GT' Thompson, R-Howard, today issued the following statement on the status of the government shutdown and efforts in the U.S. House to fund critical government services and operations.

"In addition to passing three separate continuing resolutions to fund the government prior to the lapse of appropriations, the House has passed, with bipartisan support, eight separate bills to fund critical government operations," said Thompson. "Even though many of my Democrat colleagues in the House have supported these measures, the Senate has denied consideration of almost every proposal."

"The American people are suffering under the shutdown and taxpayers are being neglected as the Senate refuses to do its job," Thompson added.

The House on Saturday voted unanimously to retroactively pay back federal employees furloughed due to the shutdown. Following the vote, Thompson delivered remarks from the House floor on the eight separate funding bills that passed the House over the last week.

"These measures should have received the support of every member. They are bills that should have passed the Senate and made their way to the President's desk," stated Thompson. "Let's end this stalemate and move forward with the people's business."
