Upon learning of news reports that families of those killed in combat were not receiving benefits they were entitled to, Rep. Cory Gardner (CO-04) released the following statement:
"Does the Obama Administration ever know when to stop the politics? It's one thing to close monuments, national parks, and parking lots -- but we have reached a disgusting new low when the Administration can't make an executive decision to pay the families of our fallen, money these families are completely entitled to. Shutdown or no shutdown, the Administration has the ability to find previously appropriated money to give to these families -- even if legislation is in the works to fix this unbelievable revelation.
"Just this past weekend, five brave Americans were killed in Afghanistan. The last thing the families of those killed should be thinking about is the cost of a funeral. I will do whatever I can to make sure money is made available to these families as soon as possible."
