Slaughter Has Helped Secure Over $4.2 Million for Airport in 2013

Today, Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (NY-25) applauded a grant of $1,448,112 awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to the Greater Rochester International Airport to rehabilitate the apron on taxiway C. The apron improvements will provide a safe place for passengers to board and exit aircraft and for airplanes to refuel.

"By investing in infrastructure projects like improvements to our airport, we create jobs in our community while ensuring a smoother and safer experience for travelers," Rep. Slaughter said. "This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking investments we need to be making to move our region and our economy forward."

Today's grant announcement is the fourth DOT grant Rep. Slaughter has helped secure for the Greater Rochester International Airport in 2013, for a total of over $4.2 million. Slaughter previously announced $828,000 for runway repairs earlier this month, $1.45 million for runway safety in July and a $492,000 grant for a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle in June.

Soon after arriving in Congress, Rep. Slaughter succeeded in getting the Rochester Airport added to the Federal Aviation Administration's priority airport list, which secured bonds for the airport from all major airline carriers. Since 2005, Rep. Slaughter has helped secure at least $23 million in safety improvements to the Greater Rochester International Airport.
