Letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - Allow Senate Vote to Protect Women, Children, & Families

Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) joined members of the Republican Women's Police Committee (RWPC) to send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this weekend, calling on him to allow the Senate to vote on numerous House bills that will provide protections for the most vulnerable Americans. Congresswoman Jenkins released the following statement about the letter:

"Our nation has many needs, but we all agree the health and well-being of our nation's women and children is a priority. Even though the Senate Democrats refuse to discuss what is best for the future of this country and address our nation's severe fiscal problems, the House continues to pass bipartisan, commonsense bills to reopen critical parts of the government, like funding for NIH and WIC. While the Senate refuses to meet us at the table, we are asking Majority Leader Reid, at the very least, to allow these bills to have a vote in the Senate."

On Thursday, the House passed H.J. Res. 73, the Research for Lifesaving Cures Act, on a bipartisan basis to fund the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Yesterday, the House passed H.J. Res. 75, the Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women and Children Act, to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Next week, the House will consider H.J. Res. 84, the Head Start for Low-Income Children Act and H.J. Res. 83, the Impact Aid for Local Schools Act.
