Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) announced that his Congressional Office would expand hours of operation in the event of a government shutdown to assist constituents affected by closures.
"It is unconscionable that House leadership has pushed our country to the brink of a government shutdown, putting at risk our economic recovery and endangering our commitments to our seniors, troops, and veterans. The needs of my constituents are my top priority and in light of the pending closures, I am committed to ensuring the people of the 36th district continue to receive essential services from my office.
"That is why I have announced that I will expand office hours in my Congressional Office to ensure our veterans continue to receive help securing VA benefits; seniors' applications for Medicare and Social Security benefits aren't delayed; and our troops and their families have the support they need in this crisis.
"As always, my doors will remain open in service to the people of the 36th district. I encourage constituents to call my office if we can be of assistance."
In the event of a government shut down, Dr. Ruiz's offices in Palm Springs will remain open from 7am to 7pm. Monday--Friday, and by appointment Saturday and Sunday until the government reopens.
