Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted against the House Republican resolution to delay the Affordable Care Act for one year and repeal a medical-device tax included in the health care law in exchange for funding the government through December 15, 2013. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

"Instead of working toward a compromise, House Republicans resorted to hostage-taking tactics to force through their extremist demands," said Rep. Chu. "Republicans put their pet interests ahead of the needs of the American people and brought us to the verge of a government shutdown. Millions of Americans will be impacted by a shutdown if it comes to pass -- it will cost our economy up to 1.6 million jobs next year, undermine critical investments in education, and it will disrupt veterans' benefits, including disability pay and pension payments. To think that all of this is being done to double down on TEA Party demands is truly shameful."
