Heitkamp Launches New Webpage with Resources for North Dakotans About Signing Up for Health Insurance

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today launched a new page on her website aimed at providing information and resources to North Dakotans about the new Health Insurance Marketplace created by the health care reform law, which will open on October 1.

The Marketplace will provide North Dakotans who are uninsured or not offered health coverage through their employer a portal to compare health insurance plans and sign up for one that best fits their needs. The new webpage can be found at heitkamp.senate.gov.

"The health care reform law isn't perfect, and I hope to make improvements moving forward. But the fact remains that it will provide health coverage for more than 20 million uninsured Americans. Starting on October 1, North Dakotans are able to compare private health insurance options in a competitive marketplace," said Heitkamp. "No matter how North Dakotans feel about the law, I want to make sure they understand their coverage options, how the law may impact them, and have a central location to find answers to their questions. That's what my new webpage aims to accomplish, and I hope North Dakotans take advantage of it."

The website includes key dates of enrollment; frequently asked questions for individuals, families, and small businesses; and information on the new Health Insurance Marketplace where North Dakotans can compare name-brand, private health plans that best fit their needs. There is also a Help Center that contains important contact information to reach live people who can answer North Dakotans' questions. The page also offers more details about different pieces of the health care reform law, including individuals' rights and protections, doctor choice based on different plans, and coverage for pre-existing conditions, among others.

In August, Heitkamp hosted a panel for small businesses to answer questions about how they will be impacted by the new health care law and what benefits it has for small employers. She has also continued to meet with North Dakotans when they have questions or concerns about the health reform law. Her new webpage is a continuation of Heitkamp's efforts to inform North Dakotans about the law.
