Congressman Bob Goodlatte released the following statement after voting in support of the National Emergency and Disaster Recovery Act (H.J.Res. 85) and the Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women and Children Act (H.J.Res. 75) -- both of which garnered the support of Republicans and Democrats in the House:
"As the partial government shutdown continues, the House voted yet again today to fund critical parts of the federal government. In the midst of hurricane season, I voted in favor of the National Emergency and Disaster Recovery Act to restore funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). I also voted in support of a bill to provide nutrition assistance for low-income women and children, commonly known as WIC. These are votes that both sides of the aisle in the House can agree upon. Why can't the Senate do the same? The American people expect their representatives in Congress to work together to find a common sense way forward. We are acting in the House and are ready for the Senate to do the same."
