Rep. Schneider Applauds New Standards to Reduce Carbon Pollution

Press Release

Date: Sept. 20, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement in support of the Environmental Protection Agency's announcement of new national standards to reduce carbon pollution from new power plants.

"If we are to sustain our nation's environmental health and remain globally competitive, we must take action to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. These new national standards aimed at limiting carbon pollution from future coal burning power plants are a positive, groundbreaking step forward. They will help preserve our environment for the next generation, and also spur innovation in new energy production technologies that will create a demand for highly-skilled green energy jobs. I look forward to working with the EPA and stakeholders to implement these new standards, and I am committed to addressing the challenges of climate change."

A member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Schneider has been vocal about the need to combat climate change and protect our environment. In particular, he has focused on protecting the Great Lakes and recently joined 30 of his colleagues in advocating for a funding level of $300 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
