U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement regarding the unsuccessful vote in the U.S. Senate to pass a House measure to go to a Conference Committee to work out the differences between the U.S. House and Senate government funding provisions. Miller said:
"For the last several days the U.S. House of Representatives have sent bipartisan bill after bipartisan bill to the Senate to seek common ground and keep the government open only to have the Senate refuse to negotiate and reject each bill along party line votes. Last night, the House passed a bill asking the Senate for a conference committee to resolve the differences between the two houses of Congress, the tool created by our Founding Fathers to keep our republic moving forward. Unfortunately the Senate rejected this compromise as well.
"House Republicans are only seeking fundamental fairness for the American people. I will continue to reach out my hand to find common ground and it is my sincere hope that at some point Senate Democrats will take hold."
