U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today congratulated Dairy Farmers of America on receiving a $500,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant and $300,000 in Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Corporate Funds through the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) to support the planned project to build and equip a new dairy processing plant at a site in the Village of Cass City. In addition, MSF approved a $1 million Community Development Block Grant program infrastructure grant for wastewater treatment facility improvements needed for the plant. MSF also awarded Tuscola County and Cass City a new 15-year Agriculture Processing Renaissance Zone designation for the project. The first phase of Dairy Farmers of America's, a national dairy marketing cooperative, planned development will consist of the construction of a new dairy processing plant in Cass City, investing $40 million and creating 25 jobs.

"The investment award from the Michigan Strategic Fund will further boost Dairy Farmers of America's plans to expand their dairy marketing and dairy processing cooperative within Michigan. This new dairy processing plant in Cass City will create 25 new jobs, and provide local dairy producers with access to a nearby market for their milk and supply our nation with wholesome, quality Michigan dairy ingredients," Miller said. "I applaud the state for using these funds wisely to keep and grow jobs in Michigan, and congratulate Cass City, their partners, and Dairy Farmers of America on receiving these awards and making the investment in our community."
