U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow joined community members from across Metro Detroit at Kensington Metropark in Milford to walk for suicide prevention. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for Americans, and accounts for one out of every five deaths of young people aged 15-24.Senator Stabenow authored the Excellence in Mental Health Act to address this issue and to help people who need mental health treatment access the care they need.
"It's tragic that more people now die from suicide than they do from car accidents," Stabenow said. "We need to reduce the stigma of mental health issues and make sure that our health care system treats mental health issues the same as physical health issues so people can get the care and the treatment that they need."
