Castro Statement on GOP Insistence on Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Joaquin Castro [TX-20] released the following statement regarding the House Republican Continuing Resolution and the potential for a government shutdown:

"Today, the House Republicans doubled down on their desire for a government shut down. In the past week, extreme partisans in both chambers of Congress have showcased the most reckless of behaviors, playing 'hot potato' with our nation's economy. As I've heard from folks back home, the uncertainty of a government shutdown has given the nation high blood pressure. While our economy recovers and the American people get back to work, Tea Party Republicans insist on sabotaging our nation's progress. As elected officials, it is our responsibility to govern, a concept that continues to escape some individuals in Congress whose political drive blinds them from doing what is right for the nation. I will continue to stand with the men and women who are willing to work in good faith for the betterment of our nation, just as I will continue to work so that Texans no longer worry about having access to affordable and quality health care."
