Bill Johnson Votes to Defund Obamacare

Press Release

Date: Sept. 20, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Johnson (OH-6) released the following statement after today's House of Representatives vote on the Continuing Resolution:

"Today, the House passed legislation that keeps the lower spending levels (sequester) in place while also defunding Obamacare. In short, this resolution will continue funding the government through mid-December, prevent a government shutdown, and stop Obamacare from being implemented. This was an unconventional measure, but the American people are becoming increasingly concerned about how the President's takeover of America's health care system will impact their lives. The House of Representatives has heard their concern, and took action today to prevent it from being implemented.

This vote comes on the heels of breaking news that Ohio's own, the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic is slashing its budget and laying-off workers in anticipation of Obamacare's full implementation. As many predicted, Obamacare is reducing access to quality care.

I will continue to work with my colleagues to repeal and replace Obamacare with market-driven, patient-centered solutions that lower costs and increase access to care. I am hopeful that the Senate will follow the House's lead and pass this legislation to avert a government shutdown."
