Begich Statement on POW/MIA Day

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2013
Issues: Defense

U.S. Sen. Mark Begich issued the following statement today to recognize POW/MIA Recognition Day:

"For the last 34 years, we dedicate the third Friday of September to members of the military that remain Missing in Action and to current and former Prisoners of War. Since World War II, more than 83,000 service members remain missing in action. We must never forget their families' losses and should strive to get them closure. I also thank those former POW's among us for their service and sacrifice.

"I will continue to use my position on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee and the Appropriations Committee to help secure the return of current POW/MIA service members. While we can never fully repay the debt we owe to our men and women in uniform and their families, it is our obligation to try. Thank you to all who serve."
