Hastings' Statement on the D.C. Navy Yard Shooting

Statement

Date: Sept. 16, 2013
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on the tragic Navy Yard shooting that took place in Washington, D.C.:

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the fallen victims, their families, and to those who were injured in today's fatal shooting. This was a cruel and heinous attack, which I condemn in the strongest possible terms.

"Unfortunately, we live in an era where we must always be vigilant of those who wish to cause harm to others. There are tragedies that we cannot explain, and some that we cannot prevent.

"The first responders who quickly arrived on scene to provide care to the injured and prevent further loss of life deserve our gratitude, as do all of the courageous men and women who serve in our armed forces. As details of today's cowardly attack continue to surface, the victims and families of all who were impacted by this senseless violence have my unwavering support."
