Buono: Governor, Tell U.S. Senate Republicans to Stop Blocking Gun Control

Statement

Date: April 17, 2013
Issues: Guns

With every passing day, more and more families are affected by the scourge of gun violence. Today, the United States Senate has the opportunity to do something about it. At 4:00 p.m., the body will vote on legislation that would expand background checks and ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. As the fate of the bills remains unclear, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Barbara Buono (D-Metuchen) released the following statement:

"Governor Christie loves to raise his voice when the cameras are rolling -- and now is the time to do it. During the last three years, he used his political capital to help elect a number of right wing Republicans. Now it is time for him to use his capital to push Republican Senators to support legislation to reduce gun violence. It's time that he put his national political ambitions aside and call upon Republicans to do the right thing to stop blocking a vote on universal background checks."
