Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today after voting against a House Republican Continuing Resolution.
"House Republicans have put forth a Continuing Resolution that caters to the most extreme elements of their party. They are threatening to shut down the government if they do not get their way, which is out of touch with the needs of New Mexico.
"The Republican bill defunds health care reform that ends insurance company abuses and extends coverage to hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans. It would also impact Medicare payments to providers, which would undermine health care for seniors in New Mexico and defund the Children's Health Insurance Program.
"House Republicans are putting ideology ahead of the health and well-being of seniors and our children. It is already clear that this bill will fail in the Senate, and this vote puts us one step closer to a government shutdown while creating another manufactured crisis that threatens to harm the economy."
