Rep. Miller on Republican Continuing Resolution: End the Brinksmanship

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-Contra Costa County) issued the following statement in response to the partisan Republican continuing resolution that continues needless and damaging sequester level spending and defunds the Affordable Care Act:

"Merriam-Webster defines "brinksmanship" as "the practice of causing or allowing a situation to become extremely dangerous in order to get the results that you want," said Miller. "That's the Republican plan for governing America --they lost the vote on health care reform in 2010, and they lost their case in the Supreme Court. Yet they are still trying nearly four years later to kill the law that is helping millions of Americans. Now if they don't get their way they will shut down the government starting October 1st. As Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke said today, doing so would have "very serious consequences" that would stunt economic growth and job creation. Americans don't need this outrageous GOP brinksmanship, they need Congress to come together to help get more people back to work."
