Rep. George Miller (D-CA-Contra Costa County) said today that he is encouraged that President Obama, other international leaders, and Syria have agreed to pursue a plan through the United Nations to contain and destroy Syria's chemical weapons.
"I am encouraged that President Obama and other international leaders, including the presidents of Syria and Russia, have agreed to pursue through the United Nations a plan to contain and destroy Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons and I am hopeful that they will be successful," Miller said. "I recognize that this is a very difficult task and that there is no guarantee that this plan will succeed. But it is essential that all parties to this plan, including Syria and Russia, pursue this effort to the fullest extent. I remain deeply skeptical about the alternative -- a military strike against Syria -- and I know most Americans remain skeptical about that alternative as well. Chemical weapons have no place in modern society and I strongly support international efforts to ensure their elimination."
