Congresswoman Matsui Statement on President's Address on Syria

Statement

Date: Sept. 10, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following response to President Obama's address to the American public regarding the situation in Syria:

"I strongly condemn the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons against its own people in blatant and horrific violation of international law, human rights, and moral decency. As a result of pressure from the United States, I am pleased that Syria has purportedly indicated its willingness to hand over its chemical weapons under the control of the international community. I support the President's plan to engage in discussions at the United Nations to explore the viability of this proposal. A diplomatic response that engages the international community is absolutely the preferred path forward."
