Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) will distribute free gun locks to residents of the Fifth Congressional District on Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 3:00 -- 5:00 p.m., at the Michigan State Police Post in Flint.
Gun locks are designed to prevent unauthorized access to a firearm. Safety brochures regarding responsible gun ownership will also be provided at the event. The gun locks will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.
"I'm pleased to partner with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as city officials to provide gun locks at no cost to Flint residents," Congressman Kildee said. "Gun locking devices help to promote public safety and secure firearms from unauthorized use. I encourage all local residents to stop by the free event, pick up a gun lock and learn about responsible gun ownership practices."
The event is being held in partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Michigan State Police and the city of Flint.
