Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced that the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee approved the recommendation of Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) to replace Senator Ed Markey on the House Energy and Commerce Committee in the 113th Congress. The recommendation will be considered for approval by the House Democratic Caucus tomorrow.
"In assuming a seat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Yarmuth will carry on the legacy of Senator Ed Markey, one of Congress' greatest champions in the fight to combat climate change and secure a clean energy future," said Leader Pelosi.
"Congressman Yarmuth's leadership has earned him the respect of colleagues and the trust of his constituents," Leader Pelosi added. "From stopping mountaintop removal mining in Kentucky to leading the charge to implement the Affordable Care Act, from advocating for advanced manufacturing in Louisville to building a sustainable future nationwide, he brings an unyielding determination to the task of protecting America's environment, securing affordable health care for all, and promoting the clean energy jobs of tomorrow."
Congressman Yarmuth represents Kentucky's third congressional district and currently serves on the Committees on Budget and Education and the Workforce. He will assume his committee post upon approval of the House Democratic Caucus.
