Barr Helps Introduce "No Obamacare Subsidies for Members of Congress Act"

On Monday, September 9, Congressman Andy Barr helped introduce H.R. 3067, the No Obamacare Subsidies for Members of Congress Act of 2013, legislation authored by Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV) that would prevent Members of Congress from receiving a roughly 75 percent subsidy for the purchase of a health insurance policy on the healthcare exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act.

"While full repeal of Obamacare remains the only solution for this flawed law that we know is costing Kentuckians their jobs and raising their healthcare premiums, we can at least make sure that the people who wrote Obamacare don't get away with special treatment," said Congressman Barr. "I have already introduced the "Live by the Laws You Write Act' to close the congressional Obamacare loophole exempting Members of Congress and certain staff, and I am glad to help introduce this important legislation that will hold lawmakers accountable by treating them like any other American who purchases an individual health insurance policy from the exchanges."

Barr continued, "I am not currently enrolled in the Congressional healthcare plan and I will continue fighting to ensure that we end all special treatment for Members of Congress."

Obamacare fundamentally changes the American health care system -- leaving an estimated seven million Americans without their employer sponsored health care as a result. And under Obamacare, those who purchase an exchange plan will only qualify for subsidies on the basis of their income, and will not qualify if they earn as much as a Member of Congress.
