Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement in response to the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC this morning:
"Today is yet another sad day in our country because of an inexplicable shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. I am deeply saddened to learn about those who have either lost their lives or have been wounded because of this incident. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Washington Navy Yard community and anyone else personally impacted by this senseless act of violence. I am sure that everyone in the community of the Washington Navy Yard will do whatever they can in the coming days to ease the pain, tensions and concerns of all affected.
"The Washington Navy Yard is a Military facility that includes many civilian workers serving this Nation. Any act such as this on domestic soil should be considered a terrorist act. I look forward to a complete investigation into the situation and will make sure that all resources needed are made available to the relevant entities. My prayers and condolences go first to the families of those wounded and I share the grief of everyone affected by this event. I applaud the swift work by the First Responders. Americans have a remarkable ability to support one another in times of crisis. This is one of those times."
