Here we are in 2013, and Republicans are not only still trying to ban abortion -- even in case of rape and incest -- but now they are trying to de-fund Planned Parenthood and are pushing "Personhood" bills that would ban common forms of birth control.
The right to choose an abortion is one I strongly believe in and is one that I have spent much of my career fighting to defend. In fact, the first bill I sponsored in the Massachusetts Legislature was the Buffer Zone Bill. This law ensures safe access to abortion clinics by requiring protesters to stay at least 35 feet from the door. My bill is the strongest law of its kind in the country and ensures that women can seek medical care without harassment.
Our next Member of Congress must be completely committed to this fight -- we cannot afford to have a Representative from this district who sits on the sidelines and allows Republicans to roll back women's rights. It is time we go on the offensive, and I look forward to bringing my Buffer Zone Bill to the US Congress.
I take it very seriously when I say that government has no business interfering with a woman's right to make her own medical decisions and that is why I have 100% ratings from both Planned Parenthood and NARAL.
