Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after House Republicans passed their so-called "No Subsidies Without Verification Act," marking the 41st time House Republicans have tried to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act:
"Today, Republicans led off the fall debate with another track in their broken record: the 41st vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act. No matter how many times Americans tell Congress to work on jobs and economic growth, House Republicans still return to pointless, partisan bills that risk the health and economic security of the middle class and have no chance of becoming law.
"The latest Republican ploy is nothing more than a desperate attempt to throw a monkey wrench into implementation of the health care law just 19 days before enrollment begins. This legislation will drive up out-of-pocket health care costs for the middle class and delay health coverage for millions of Americans. What's more, this so-called "income verification' bill is redundant and unnecessary, as the federal government already has a system in place to address this exact issue.
"Surely we should all be able to agree that 41 votes on the same matter are more than enough. Yet Republicans keep finding new ways to disregard the best interests of the American people. It's time for them to stop playing political games and to work with Democrats to create jobs and grow the economy."
