U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today issued the following statement on the twelfth anniversary of the attacks on September 11th, 2001:
"On this twelfth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, we honor the memory of the two-thousand eight-hundred nineteen innocent Americans who were murdered in an act of unspeakable evil.
"We grieve for the families and friends who lost loved ones in New York, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In Minnesota we especially remember our native sons Tom Burnett, Jr. and Max Beilke. But we also give thanks for the heroism of our first responders, who ran towards the danger rather than away, and we remember the outpouring of love and support that the American people showed that day and in the weeks and months that followed.
"Today we rededicate ourselves to that spirit of generosity and shared purpose and we recommit ourselves to the principles and the freedoms that make this country great--that no amount of evil can ever destroy.
"Our nation was shaken to the core on that day, but it did not crumble, and we can pay tribute to those we lost by standing taller and stronger and ever-more committed to the values we cherish as Americans."
