Today, on the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) issued the following statement:
"50 years ago, today, over 200,000 people of all genders, races and backgrounds marched on Washington D.C. to highlight the economic and social injustices that faced our country. Today our nation has made incredible progress in righting many of those past wrongs, but we still have work to do -- in restoring the power of the Voting Rights Act, pushing for gender equality, and improving the economic conditions of millions of American men and women. Let us celebrate this important day, but remember to continue fighting for progress."
