Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) released the following statement following President Obama's address to the nation regarding Syria:
"I commend President Obama for having a public discussion and including the American people in this incredibly important debate. I am listening to the concerns of my constituents as there have been many tough questions about action in Syria that must be answered. I am pleased that the United States is working with the international community to reach a diplomatic option that secures and removes Syria's chemical weapons, preventing Assad, al Qaeda, or other terrorist groups from using these heinous weapons against innocent men, women, and children ever again. This is a very serious and complex situation that is constantly developing, and I continue to remain cautiously optimistic that the United States can reach a resolution diplomatically and peacefully with the cooperation of our international partners."
