Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) released the following statement in celebration of Labor Day:

"On Labor Day, we celebrate the tremendous contribution America's workers have made in building and strengthening this country. America's workers are our neighbors, our friends, our local firefighters and police who keep us safe, our nurses who care for the sick, and our teachers who dedicate their lives to educate our children. In New Jersey's Tenth Congressional District, you don't have to look far to see the great work that our construction, steel, and manufacturing workers have contributed to building the State of New Jersey. From the Bayonne Bridge, the Newark City Subway, and the New Jersey turnpike that connect us to one another -- to more recently NJPAC, the Prudential Center, and the Panasonic Building. These contributions were given to us from the hands and hearts of our labor workers.

"We owe a great debt of gratitude to these workers for making America the greatest country on Earth, and in return, they deserve basic workers' rights, workplace protections, and a fair wage for an honest day's work. To remain the leader of the world, we have to out-innovate the rest of the world. But to do that we have to invest in our workers and create jobs that keep up with emerging technologies. My Green Jobs Bill, H.R. 2863, expands access to capital for small businesses that create good-paying green jobs in low-income communities. This is the type of forward-thinking investment that will ensure that America's workers will remain competitive in a constantly advancing, global economy.

"Thank you to our labor workers, for you have left an indelible mark on this country, and you will forever be essential to our nation's success. As your Member of Congress, I will continue to fight for you, to provide equal protections in the workplace, and to raise the minimum wage. I wish everyone in New Jersey a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend."
