This week we voted on crucial legislation that will clean up our government and get it out of the way of our families and businesses who are trying to make it in today's struggling economy.
Our government has completely run amok with scandals, bloated deficit spending and job-killing taxes and regulations. We have arrived at a sad state of affairs where our government measures its success by how much money it spends, how many laws it creates, how many regulations it imposes, and how many taxes it levies. The success of programs like food stamps and welfare should not be measured by how many people collect benefits, but by how many are able to escape poverty. We need to grow our country's revenue, not by increasing taxes on those who are already paying, but by getting people back to work.
Cities across the country are declaring bankruptcy because of the failure to negotiate a fundamental principle of accounting: you can't continue to spend more than you take in and be prosperous. We sit here today as cities and countries crumble under their debts and unfunded obligations, yet we continue to allow our great nation to participate in the same lockstep migration towards economic ruin.
We can't keep taxing, spending and regulating our way to economic recovery and prosperity. We must stop inundating our families and businesses with out-of-control burdens.
We must also ask ourselves: when did having a job become not enough? It used to be that if you had a job, you could work hard, get ahead, pay your bills and take care of your family. Now, having a job is just not enough. Families are working harder and more than ever before, and yet continue to struggle to get by and get ahead.
A big and burdensome government makes life worse for hardworking Americans. Enough is enough: we must stop this government abuse. Our legislation will stop government abuse, restrain a runaway federal government, and empower the American people with greater opportunities to achieve their individual greatness.
Americans want a strong economy and are more than willing to put in the hard work to secure a prosperous future for their families and their neighbors. Our plan to stop government abuse lays the groundwork for the creation of new and better jobs, more freedom, and opportunity.
Stopping the-out-of-control bureaucracy is key to a successful jobs plan and getting our country back on the right trac
