Kingston Urges Leadership to Defund Obamacare

With just over a month until major provisions of Obamacare are set to take effect, Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) and 79 House Republicans are urging House leaders to defund the controversial law.

The lawmakers wrote House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) to use the appropriations process to affirmatively defund implementation and enforcement of the law.

"When President Obama delayed the employer mandate for a year, he himself admitted that this law is not ready," said Kingston. "We cannot allow a half-baked law administered by an agency embroiled in scandal to impact one of the most personal facets of our lives. The American people do not want a bureaucrat between them and their doctors. Now is our chance to stop this train wreck before it goes any further."

Major provisions of the law are set to take effect October 1. Despite the looming deadline, a recently uncovered report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service revealed that the Obama Administration has missed half of the statutory deadlines laid out in the bill.

"It is clear that Obamacare is not ready," said Kingston. "Rather than stubbornly rushing it through, let's scrap the misguided law and come together to advance real reform. We can bring down costs and expand access by empowering patients and doctors over bureaucrats and encouraging competition."

To that end, Kingston has backed efforts to level the playing field between big companies and individuals purchasing health insurance, allow interstate competition for health plans, and encourage health savings plans that allow customers to shop around for health services.
