Gov. Tomblin Requests U.S. Small Business Administration Loans for Roane County

Press Release

Date: Aug. 23, 2013
Location: Charleston, WV

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today requested U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Director Frank Skaggs issue a Physical Disaster Declaration which will provide low-interest loans to Roane County homeowners and businesses who suffered damages from severe storms occurring June 12 and June 19, 2013.

"While FEMA is able to help our public entities, like the City of Spencer, recover from the June flood damage, homeowners and business owners are still in need of a helping hand. I believe SBA loans could provide this much needed assistance," Gov. Tomblin said.

Following the storms, a joint federal-state preliminary damage assessment team reported 42 homes with major damage, 149 with minor damage, six businesses with major damage and another 25 businesses with minor damage in Roane County. The governor's request for individual assistance from FEMA was denied by the federal government. FEMA did grant Gov. Tomblin's request for public assistance which helps reimburse local and state government agencies for their storm recovery costs.
