Representative Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) released the following statement today in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom."

"Fifty years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired our country with the impact of his words and the quality of his leadership as he led a movement to ensure that everyone, regardless of race, could realize the American Dream. Today, we remember his powerful words and the actions of everyone who marched, fought, and died for equality.

"As we commemorate the courage and bravery of those who fought before us, it is important to recognize that our work is not yet finished. We are still fighting for equal access to quality education, the right to vote without unnecessary barriers, the right to marry who you love regardless of gender, and equal pay for equal work.

"We must and we will continue to carry the torch Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others carried 50 years ago in their fight for equality for all."
