Cohen on GOP's 38th Doomed Attempt to Undermine and Repeal Health Care Law: "Waste of Time and Taxpayer Money"

Press Release

Date: July 17, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

After Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives attempted for the 38th time to undermine and repeal President Obama's Affordable Care Act, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today insisted that Congress' should be working to finalize a budget and create jobs instead of wasting time and taxpayer money on legislative proposals that are dead-on-arrival in the Senate. The legislation brought to the floor today by House Republicans would undermine access to affordable coverage for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions like cancer and diabetes.

"Republicans have now wasted Congress' time and taxpayer money to hold 38 votes to repeal or undermine President Obama's landmark Affordable Care Act," said Congressman Cohen. "These misguided yet repeated attempts to roll back access to affordable coverage for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions brings to mind saying by a certain Republican President: "there you go again.'"

"Memphians and Americans across the nation deserve leaders in Washington who are willing to work together to solve our problems, not waste time and tax dollars to score cheap political points. At a time when we should be working to finalize a budget and create jobs, Republicans once again have the wrong priorities."
