Congresswoman Cheri Bustos Announces $79,548 For Farm & Rural Business Energy Efficiency

Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, announced that five agricultural producers and rural small businesses in Illinois' 17th Congressional District will receive a total of $79,548 to reduce their energy consumption and costs and use renewable energy technologies in their operations. The grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). REAP is authorized as part of the 2008 Farm Bill and unless Congress Acts, the current Farm Bill will expire on September 30th of this year. Bustos has consistently fought for a comprehensive, bipartisan, five-year Farm Bill that would give Illinois farmers and producers the certainty they need and deserve.

"I'm pleased today to announce these important investments in energy efficiency for Illinois farmers and producers," said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. "Today's grants will not only increase energy efficiency but they will also help the recipients save money. Investing in rural America is absolutely critical to the health of our district, state and nation, and that's why we need to pass a comprehensive, bipartisan, long-term Farm Bill this fall."
