Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ -07) today released the following statement following House passage of the student loan compromise:
"The Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act reflects the policies and priorities of the House by providing a long-term, market-based solution that lowers and caps interest rates for all students. It provides student borrowers and their families with the financial certainty they need to plan for the costs of higher education.
"And the agreement is fiscally conservative by reducing the deficit by $715 million over the next decade. This bipartisan compromise is a victory for students, parents and taxpayers alike.
"But there is still more work to be done. We must address ever-increasing tuition rates. It is my hope that Congress will closely examine the issue of college affordability in the same bipartisan spirit so that we can make sure that higher education attainable for the next generation."
