Blackburn Votes to Delay Obamacare Mandates for All Americans

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today voted to give hard-working taxpayers the same relief from President Obama's healthcare mandates that his administration has granted to businesses.

After a series of secret meetings with business interests, the Obama administration postponed the implementation of the healthcare mandate for businesses employing 50 or more full-time employees. Today, the House of Representatives voted to extend to all Americans that same one-year reprieve from the law's terribly unpopular individual mandate.

"The Obama administration is finally starting to realize what the rest of the country already knows: Obamacare is a "train wreck' and nowhere near ready for implementation," Blackburn said. "Recently, over the course of three days, the administration rewrote a law they have been trying to implement for three years by delaying for one-year the employer mandate.

"It is simply not fair that the President has decided to protect business from Obamacare, but not hardworking individuals and families. Like most of the decisions made by this administration, this happened behind closed doors in secret meetings that excluded the interests of the general public. This legislation simply levels the playing field and provides all Americans with a reprieve from these burdensome Obamacare mandates. This is another step in Republican efforts to repeal the President's failed healthcare law and replace it with policies that will actually work."

As Vice Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Blackburn sits on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee that will hold a hearing at 1:30pm ET tomorrow to examine the recent changes in the implementation of Obamacare.
