Baucus Statement on Nomination of John Koskinen to be IRS Commissioner

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) made the following statement today after President Obama nominated John Koskinen to be the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service:

"I am pleased with the President's choice of John Koskinen to be the next IRS Commissioner. He has the right background and experience in helping turnaround organizations facing tough challenges.

"This has been a troubling time at the IRS. The agency is in a rebuilding phase after having lost the trust of the American people. Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel has done a great job in restoring confidence in the agency, and I thank him for his service.

"I look forward to working with Mr. Koskinen and hope, after a thorough review, the Finance Committee can quickly move his nomination to the full Senate. If confirmed, I'm confident he will continue to rebuild the agency and help it regain the trust of the American people."
