Gov. Peter Shumlin issued the following statement:
"I applaud President Obama's commitment to strengthen the middle class by helping Americans get good-paying jobs, improving access to quality education, increasing the opportunity to own a home, putting a secure retirement within reach, and making health care affordable and accessible.
Under the President's leadership, our economy continues to make clear and steady progress, with more than 7.2 million new jobs created in the past 40 months. Although gridlock in Washington threatens to hamper that progress, it is my hope that Congress will follow the President's lead and refocus on issues that affect middle class families."
