House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on new state-by-state reports from the White House, "The Economic Benefits of Fixing Our Broken Immigration System." In California, comprehensive immigration reform would create approximately 77,070 new jobs next year and boost California's economic output by $35.8 billion through 2045.
"Today's report leaves no doubt: comprehensive immigration reform is good for growth, good for jobs, and a clear victory for Californians. This legislation would foster innovation and business growth, raise workers' income, and increase state and local tax revenue. It would contribute to California's housing recovery and bolster our local technology, agriculture, and tourism sectors.
"The Senate did its part and kept its promise, and the House must act now. To grow the economy and support our communities, we must enact comprehensive immigration reform that upholds our core principles -- to secure our borders, protect our workers, unite our families, and provide an earned pathway to citizenship.
"The time is now for commonsense reform that strengthens our economy, advances our values of equality and opportunity, and honors our history as a nation of immigrants."
