House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 367, the Regulations From the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act:
"Under President Obama, the number of federal regulations hit an all-time high last year, costing the American people over $14,000 per household. President Obama has enacted over 50 rules that each have an economic impact of $100 million or more -- and hundreds more are in the pipeline. This unnecessary red tape means businesses can't afford to hire more people and create more jobs. We need business owners and managers focused on hiring, not navigating a sea of needless government bureaucracy.
"I applaud House passage of the REINS Act to rein in costly federal rulemaking so we can jumpstart economic growth. Additionally, the adoption of RSC Chairman Steve Scalise's amendment makes clear that any carbon tax would do little to change global temperatures and increase energy costs for working middle class Americans when we need to be focused on creating an environment for growth."
