House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement on upcoming House legislation to tighten sanctions on Iran:
"America's policies must be based on facts not hopes, and we must respond to Iran's behavior not its rhetoric. Recognizing that Iran continues to flagrantly violate numerous UN Security Council resolutions calling for the suspension of its nuclear enrichment program and continues to deny inspectors access to suspected nuclear sites in Iran, the House will consider H.R. 850, a bill to strengthen the sanctions regime currently in place against Iran. This bill will give the President new tools to pressure Iran to change course before it is too late. The ball is in Iran's court. The onus is on the regime in Tehran to demonstrate it is serious about becoming a responsible member of the international community and abandoning its pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability."
