Today Governor Gary R. Herbert signed a proclamation convening the Utah Legislature into Special Session to address some legislative issues on July 17, 2013, at 12:30 p.m.
"I have called the Legislature into Special Session to address some pressing legislative items that require attention," said the Governor. "These are timely issues that should be appropriately addressed by the Legislature on their regularly scheduled July interim day to ensure a more thorough and efficient legislative process."
Among the issues to be discussed during the Special Session are possible changes to legislative subpoenas, the provision of testimony and evidence, and to immunity statutes. The Legislature also will consider enacting provisions governing the work of legislative investigative committees.
Other items included on the Special Session call are possible changes to provisions related to the unauthorized practice of law and for the Senate to consent to appointments made by the Governor.
