Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after signing into law yesterday HB 306, a measure relative to New Hampshire's regional greenhouse gas initiative (RGGI), and today HB 630, a measure relative to the use of proceeds from the RGGI program:
"The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative has brought numerous benefits to the Granite State, including reducing harmful emissions that lead to climate change and helping to reduce energy costs, create jobs and encourage innovation in the state's clean-energy economy.
"With these bills now law, we will ensure that we continue to maximize the benefits of the program for the people and businesses of New Hampshire, allowing us continue to reduce costs for our rate payers and invest in energy-efficiency projects. We will also increase access to weatherization for those who struggle most with their energy bills, helping them to lower their energy costs.
"I thank legislators from both parties, as well as officials from the Department of Environmental Services and all stakeholders who worked on these measures, for coming together to provide leadership in addressing climate change and to build a brighter energy future for our state."
