Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after Secretary Janet Napolitano announced her departure as head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):

"I spoke to Secretary Napolitano today to extend to her my heartiest congratulations on her historic nomination to become the first female president of the University of California system. Secretary Napolitano will be leaving one of the most important and challenging jobs in this nation, having headed the Department of Homeland Security for over four years. Tasked with protecting Americans from international threats, natural disasters, and man-made accidents, Secretary Napolitano has earned her stripes. I wish her the best and offer her my support in her new role heading the top public university system in the world."
