Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement after H.R. 2642, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act passed the House by a vote of 216 to 208.
"Given our nearly $17 trillion national debt, Congress must carefully scrutinize all programs across the federal government," said Rothfus. "We need to move the ball forward to consider agriculture and nutrition programs on their individual merits so that we can make the reforms necessary to put these programs on a sustainable footing. While the legislation passed today is not perfect, it is a step in the right direction to achieving a 21st century agricultural policy for our farmers and ranchers, and for reform the American people deserve. The House should now move promptly to address our nation's nutrition programs."
