House Passes Garcia Amendment to Fund Storm Damage Reduction Efforts

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

The U.S. House of Representatives late yesterday passed the Fiscal Year 2014 Energy and Water Appropriations bill, which included an amendment offered by Rep. Joe Garcia to provide $1 million in additional funding to address storm and flood damage. "In South Florida, we know firsthand the kind of damage that hurricanes, storms, and flooding can inflict on our communities. With hurricane season underway, it is all the more important that we do more to address these issues and provide greater resources to the Army Corps for their critical efforts," Garcia said. The Garcia Amendment was included in H.R. 2609, the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, which passed the House by a vote of 227-198 on July 10, 2013. H.R 2609 now awaits action by the Senate.
