Congressman Peters' Statement on ACA Employer Mandate Implementation Delay

Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration's decision to delay implementation of the employer mandate section of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) until 2015:

"I am pleased to hear that the ACA employer mandate has been delayed for a year. The extended implementation timeline should allow for a better fine-tuning of the law. In my discussions with San Diego businesses over the past few months it has been clear that more time and clarity were needed to get this right.

"We can all agree that the ACA is not perfect. I was not in Congress when the ACA became law, but now we are all charged with making sure that we use this next year to improve the law. The ACA makes major strides toward expanding health care accessibility, however it is far from achieving its goal of affordability. It is my hope that over the next year we can find ways to reduce costs by spurring technology and innovation through a repeal of the Medical Device Tax, cutting waste and fraud from Medicare & Medicaid, and increasing incentives for preventative care & wellness programs."
